Snowy Bathroom Christmas Decor

I started planning our master bathroom Christmas decor a couple of months ago with the hope of doing something completely different from the last two years.

I’ve been spending quite a bit of time contemplating our blessings and the stark difference in our lives right now from what they looked like 2 years ago.

As the time drew near to share this Christmas room reveal, I received two comments on previous videos about our bathroom Christmas decor.

One stated that “no one needs this” (this being bathroom Christmas decor) and the other said, “she has a problem” as if decorating our bathroom meant there was something wrong with me.

While I know comments like this often come from a place of pain, it’s true that no one needs to decorate their bathroom for Christmas, but the reality is no one needs to decorate any part of their house for Christmas.

Because Christmas is not about materialism or consumerism, but rather a gift of humility and true love that came in the form of a special Baby.

I won’t rehash all the reasons why I decorate for Christmas, but I wanted to share why I decorated our bathroom in the first place and why it is now a tradition.

The year was 2020 (need I say more?) and what had started as a year full of wonderful possibilities was ending with our lives full of uncertainty, and a fair amount of sadness as well.

When I first shared the video I simply said “I decided to surprise Roger with a Christmas bubble bath when he came home from work today.”

What I didn’t share was how this was a gift of love (acts of service) to hopefully cheer up my husband.

After a year of potential adoptions falling through, him being out of work for ~2 months (like most of the world during covid lockdowns) with no money coming in, becoming parents (through foster care), and then all of a sudden, not parents anymore.

And to finish it off, my husband was about to not have a job and lose his entire investment in the business he had been working to build for years.

So I guess you could say we were a bit discouraged.

As I was cleaning up around our house I found some Christmas decor that I hadn’t used.

So I thought it would be a nice surprise for Roger to come home and see a festive bathroom and I hoped that it would bring him a little happiness.

Of course, we know peace and joy do not come from decorating a room for Christmas (our faith is much greater than that), but this was a gift of love that my husband greatly appreciated that evening.

And thus a new Christmas tradition was created.

So while some may continue to see this as an act of materialism, for us it is a reminder of a difficult Christmas and how God carried us through some dark times.

Whether this Christmas is full of joy or pain, I pray you will find hope in CHRISTmas.
