I decided to try my hand at showing vs telling fall decor when decorating our master bathroom wetspace for fall.

For those who aren’t familiar with the difference between showing and telling fall decor, don’t worry, I wasn’t either until recently.

“Showing” fall decor uses things like colors and textures, such as heavy fabrics and natural fall colors, to show or signify that it is fall.

While “telling” fall decor is often seen through decor such as fall signs or pillows that say things like “grateful” or “thankful” (both of which you can see here in our living room fall decor) or through the use of lots of pumpkins (which I use a lot in our living room).

Bathroom Details (Click to Shop):
Chandelier | Luxury Soaking Bathtub | Clawfoot Tub Filler | Natural Wooden Bench | Large Natural Basket | White Spa Bath Towels | Brown Pattern Towel | Brown Pattern Hand Towel | Large Conical Glass Canister | Small Glass Canister | Glass Votive Candles | Taupe Bath Mat | Wood Bathtub Tray
Fall Decor Elements (Click to Shop):
Brown Vase | Mini Cream Pampas | Mini Neutral Maple Leaves | Blush Lamb’s Ear Stem | Long Neck Brown Vase | Tall Pampas Grass | Wood Bead Pumpkin | Black Candle | A Long & Fatal Love Chase by Louisa May Alcott | Amber Candle

If you take a look at my kitchen fall decor, I tried to do more “showing” (seen next to and behind our stove) but ended up relying more on telling as I didn’t have enough “showing” decor.

While there is one wood bead pumpkin outside our shower beside the tall pampas grass, Roger said that it “doesn’t really look like a pumpkin” so I’m going to go ahead and call this a success for “showing” fall decor.

And although I have nothing against “telling” fall decor, I have lots of it all over our house, I would love to start slowly adding in more “showing” decor in the future.

I see it as a fun challenge that will take some trial and error.

But it will be a very slow transition as my seasonal decor budgets aren’t large, and I only add a little each year.

And now that our bathroom is done, I only have 2 more spaces left to decorate for fall, the front porch, and our master bedroom.
