A couple of weekends ago we arrived home from our first vacation in Cancun Mexico where we stayed at the Hyatt Ziva Cancun for free (more about how you can too in this post).

This was our first trip in 2018 & it was an incredibly wonderful long weekend experience in paradise.

So today I thought I would share with you all of the highlights of our trip.

Prior to this trip, we had no idea how convenient it is to travel to Cancun. On Friday morning we flew directly from Atlanta to Cancun in 2 hours & 30 minutes & arrived at the airport at 12:30 pm.

We assumed customs would take quite a bit of time & we were worried we wouldn’t be at the resort until well after 3 pm, but even with the 25-30 minute ride from the Cancun airport to the Hyatt Ziva Resort, we arrived just after 2 pm.

Check-in wasn’t until 3 pm, so we left our luggage at the front desk & headed off in search of our first all-inclusive meal. We indulged in brick oven pizza, homemade gnocchi, & a very dreamy salad bar.

After a quick stop at Pastels, their all-dessert restaurant, we officially checked in & headed to our room.

Prior to arriving, Hyatt’s concierge had emailed Roger in regards to details of our trip. Roger then requested an ocean view room in a more private part of their hotel.

And when we arrived we discovered they had upgraded us to our requests, at no additional charge!

Our room had a view of sunrise between the tops of two palm trees facing the ocean.

I love the sound of waves crashing on the rocks & this room exceeded our expectations.

We then quickly changed into our swimsuits & headed down to the beach.

As the resort is located on the point of a peninsula there are actually two beaches available to Hyatt guests. We opted for the private Hyatt beach located next to the lighthouse & in front of the main pool.

The water was crystal clear with shades of aqua, blue, & green in the distance.

After a couple of drinks (all non-alcoholic for us), the virgin mojito quickly became my favorite, we decided to go for a dip in the pool & hot tub before heading back to our room to change for dinner.

We had spent quite a bit of time researching the restaurants online prior to the trip & had decided upon the adults-only French restaurant for our first night. We really miss Paris!

While there wasn’t a lot of vegetarian options, their potato soup was one of our favorite savory dishes at the resort. I love a good soup!

Oh, & the birthday dessert platter they brought me was amazing!!

We then spent the evening exporting the property at night with hot chocolate from their coffee shop & (more) dessert from pastels (because why not?), before retiring early (relative to most everyone in Cancun) to bed.

We woke up somewhat early the next morning so that we could watch the sunrise from our ocean front balcony.

We then enjoyed a quiet morning walk with hot chocolate & coffee along the beach, as most everyone was still asleep in bed.

After breakfast at the Tradewinds Restaurant, we headed back down to the beach to spend our morning relaxing beneath a thatch roof umbrella, sipping more virgin mojitos, with our toes in the sand.

For lunch, we dined at Lorenzo’s Italian Restaurant again & then we spent the rest of our afternoon wandering between the beach & two of the pools.

We also occasionally stopped to watch the dolphins swimming, jumping, & clapping at the natural dolphin pool that runs the length of the hotel.

And the entire time we kept thinking about how much our nieces & nephews would love the dolphins… & the dessert restaurant!

For dinner, we ate at Moongate (the Asian/Chinese/Thai restaurant).

We were a little concerned they wouldn’t have anything vegetarian to eat after reading some reviews online. So before we headed back up to our room to change for dinner we stopped by the restaurant to see if they had tofu.

We were assured that they could swap any of the entrees with meat for tofu. Although later when ordering the server said he would have to check first if they had any tofu. Luckily they did!

After dinner, we spent the rest of our evening cozied up with hot chocolate on a big round recliner facing a firepit in front of the ocean.

On Sunday we woke up at 7 am again to watch the sunrise, but this time we ordered room service (complimentary/all-inclusive room service is the BOMB!) & enjoyed watching the sunrise as we ate our breakfast.

Our flight home (with a layover in Texas) was at 12:15 pm, but before we left we made sure to get a little more beach & pool time in. We’ve already decided that next time we are going to opt for a later nonstop flight even if it costs a little extra because we want to soak up every last minute that we can in Cancun!

While we were only in Cancun for less than 48 hours, it was a trip we will never forget!
