If you are traveling to Key West, love to eat, & have a sweet tooth than this list of 10 Key West sweet treats & desserts is just for you!

When I first mentioned creating an article about 10 Key West sweet treats to Roger he immediately exclaimed that was too many & that we would never be able to eat that many desserts in less than 72 hours.
I was a bit disappointed in his lack of faith.
I tried to “argue” (I mean who really argues about dessert??) that we totally could do it, but after a few hours of consideration I decided he was right.
There was no way we could eat 10 desserts while visiting Key West.
So I conceded & decided to make it an article about 5 sweet treats in Key West.
But then guess what happened?
We not only surpassed 5 Key West sweet treats, we ended up surpassing even 10 Key West desserts.
Our finally tally of sweet treats in Key West was 13.
That’s a lot of desserts in 3 days.
I guess you can say we have a sweet tooth!
Now I should be clear, we split those 13 sweet treats & one of them (the cookie) was so big that we are taking over half of it home with us. And we did so much walking & biking I somehow didn’t gain any weight!
And before I get to the list there are a few things I should note.
- We went back to get our top two sweet treats a second time which brought us to 13 sweet treats during our Key West trip. And the 13th one was so subpar we decided it shouldn’t even be mentioned.
- I spent quite a bit of time researching desserts & sweet treats prior to & even during our trip to ensure we were trying the top sweet treats, bakeries, & restaurants in Key West.
- These desserts are ranked, with 1 & 2 being our favorites. That being said some people may like the last 5 sweet treats better than our top 5 favorite sweet treats. And that is totally fine! If we all had the same tastes we would be the most boring creatures on the planet!
- One more thing, the pictures are a bit subpar, but I was always in a hurry to snap a picture before it either melted or Roger took a bite.
So let’s get to this sweet list. And if you’ve been to & tried any of these items I’d love to hear your thoughts!!
ps. You can see just about everything we ate during our long weekend trip by watching our Key West Adventures on YouTube.

1. Cookies & Cream Ice Cream at Matthiessen’s
This was my favorite dessert in Key West!! It was so rich, thick, & creamy I can’t help but wonder if it was actually gelato!
We taste tested a couple of their other flavors & this one was by far my favorite.
Usually I’m more of a caramel, chocolate, vanilla kind of person, but this Cookies & Cream Ice Cream is what dreams are made out of if you ask me!

2. Chocolate Chip Cookie at Matthiessen’s
This was Roger’s number one pick as his favorite dessert. The cookie was as big as his hand and dotted with warm chocolate chips.
That’s one upside to the heat in Key West (especially in August) the cookie always seems fresh out of the oven!
We tried our number one & two picks on Thursday & then went back late Saturday night for seconds of both!

3. Key Lime Pie on a Stick at the Key Lime Lime Pie Company
This is our go-to dessert when on family vacation in Marathon with Roger’s family every summer.
It’s made by the same company that delivers them all over Marathon so we knew exactly what we were about to taste, but had never had it fresh (frozen) from the bakery that makes them.
This Key Lime Pie on a stick has a creamy soft Key Lime cheesecake center with just the right amount of chocolate coating.
We tried two Key Lime Pie’s on a stick & one key Lime Pie & this one was definitely the best tasting & was our overall favorite of its kind.
You may want to double check this before you go, but I’m pretty sure I remember seeing a gluten free section on their menu!

4. Key Lime Pie on a Stick at Kermit’s Key West Key Lime Shoppe
This Key Lime Pie was delicious too & for those of you who prefer a thicker chocolate layer & a more frozen dessert this is the one for you!

5. Pastries at La Grignote
Oh my goodness! This was so good!
If I closed my eyes I could almost imagine myself back in Paris.
I wish I could put this up higher on the list because it was amazing!
But I already feel bad that my top two favorites were not Key Lime Pie.
This was so good & really does not deserve to be down so far. If I could I would eat one every day!

6. La Red Velvet Crepe at La Creperie
This was by far the most decadent dessert with all of the toppings!
I will admit it was hard to taste the actual crepe with so many delicious toppings, but that’s ok because the overall flavor was amazing!
This was less of a crepe dessert & more of a dessert extravaganza!
And the ice cream on top was the perfect way to cool down because we were seriously melting in the August Key West heat!

7. Key Lime Pie at Old Town Bakery
We may have been spoiled on the chilled/frozen Key Lime Pie on a stick over the years which is why this is lower on our list.
But for those of you who love Key Lime Pie it’s worth a try!

8. Macroon at Le Macaron
Roger didn’t try this as I only bought one & he isn’t a huge macaron fan, but I enjoyed it!
And their bakery is really cute & hard to miss if you are walking down Duval Street.
Just look for the Eiffel Tower in the window!

9. Cherry Donut at Glazed Donuts
I love donuts & I seriously expected this bakery to be higher on the list, but somethings got to go in spot number 9.
And this bakery may have ended up higher if we had tried a different donut.
But just because it’s in spot number 9 doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give it a try!
I definitely want to give it another try next time we are in Key West.

10. Vanilla & Mango Ice Cream at Flamingo
This was the first dessert we tried in Key West.
The reviews looked good so we decided to give it a try.
While we enjoyed the taitian Vanilla the mango wasn’t our favorite.
