Last week, I shared a DIY for Valentine’s Heart Cake Toppers that was so fun to decorate!
But then I got to thinking about when I was a kid and how fun it was to have Valentine’s Day parties at school with Valentine’s cupcakes.
And while a cake is so much fun for a Galentine’s party, cupcakes can be easier to transport, serve, and enjoy, especially for kids.
So I decided to share a follow-up tutorial for Heart Cupcake Toppers.
Which do you like better, the cake or the cupcakes topped with hearts?
ps. I printed off some hearts as a template to help me make sure my hearts didn’t get too big or too small, and I included the template below in case you want to use it too.
Note: You can totally use pretzel sticks instead, but if you are making these ahead of time, you may want to stick (pun intended) to the skewer sticks, as the moisture of the cupcake could soften the pretzel stick over time.

DIY Heart Cupcake Toppers
These Valentine’s Heart Cupcake Toppers are a fun way to top homemade or store-bought cupcakes for Valentine’s Day or a Galentine’s party.
Ingredients
Instructions
- First, place the cupcakes on a cake stand and add sprinkles and edible glitter on top.
- Next, place the heart printable template under a piece of wax paper, then place the bamboo skewers, cut to your desired size, on top of the wax paper.
- Melt the pink candy wafers according to the package instructions, then add coconut oil (a teaspoon at a time) to make it smoother/thinner and easier to work with.
- Put the melted wafers into an icing bag and cut off the tip (make it pretty small so it won’t all pour out).
- Drizzle the melted wafers over the bamboo stick while creating a heart shape using the heart printable as a template.*(2)
- Before the candy wafers harden, add sprinkles on top.
- Once the candy wafers have hardened, spray them with edible glitter.
- Repeat steps 3-7 to create as many hearts as you want with white and red candy wafers.
- Once the candy wafers have hardened, carefully remove them from the wax paper and place them in the cupcakes.
- Serve and enjoy!
Notes
- Alternatively, you can use Edible Gel Food Coloring (or this alternative, no artificial dye food coloring) in white chocolate.
- I found it easier to add some of the melted wafers under the bamboo stick to hold it in place while creating and filling in the heart shape.

If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.
