Oven-bake clay is my favorite crafting clay.
It may be a little harder to work with than air-dry clay, but I love that I can use my kitchen oven to dry it out and that it hardens so quickly!
This DIY Clay Napkin Heart Trinket Dish would be such a fun Galentine’s Girls’ Night craft, making beautiful Valentine’s Day decor for your home.
I had a hard time deciding which napkin to use, but I finally decided that this one would be so pretty with a gold edging using my gold paint marker.
You could display your Clay Napkin Heart Trinket Dish on a shelf, use it as a trinket dish on a side table, or place it on a tray as a candle holder.
Do you prefer air-dry clay or oven-bake clay when crafting at home?

Oven-Bake Clay – also available on Amazon – click HERE
Craft Rolling Pin, here is a similar one (any rolling pin not used for food)
Craft Cutting Board (any cutting board not used for food), optional
Craft Knife (any knife not used for food)
Instructions:
1. First, cut off a piece of clay with a knife and then roll it out to your desired thickness. Mine was ~1/4 of an inch. Place the rolled-out clay on a craft cutting board if you are worried about scraping your counters.
Note: The thicker it is, the longer it will take to dry.
2. Place the rolled-out clay on top of the oven-safe heart plate and press the clay into the heart to form the heart shape.
3. Flip the clay/heart plate over and carefully use a craft knife to cut the shape of the heart.
4. Remove the excess clay from around the heart and flip the plate upright.
5. Carefully remove the clay heart from the heart plate, to make sure it doesn’t bake to the plate, and then place it loosely back on the heart plate.
6. Place the oven-safe heart dish, with the clay heart on top, in your oven and bake according to the Oven Bake Clay instructions.
7. Once baked and cooled, remove the clay heart from the heart dish. Then open a paper napkin and remove all its inner layers.
8. Brush Mod Podge on the top of the clay heart and place the outer (printed) layer of the napkin on the clay heart (print side up).
9. Gently press/pat down the napkin on the clay heart, then add a top layer of Mod Podge on top and let it dry.
10. Once the Mod Podge has dried, remove the extra napkin from the clay heart and cut off the excess with precision scissors.
11. Brush the gold paint marker on the edges of the clay heart.
12. Once dry, apply resin according to the packaging instructions. Let dry/harden.
That’s it! Enjoy your new Clay Napkin Heart Trinket Dish as decor, a candle holder, or to hold your favorite rings and trinkets!

Ephesians 1:18 NIV

How long does the “decorating” of the heart take from start to finish? If I made the clay hearts ahead of time, could I have guests at a 2-3 hour bridal shower decorate their heart when they first arrive and mid-way through have them “seal” their hearts….and have them dry before they leave?
For a bridal shower, I may recommend sealing them with Mod Podge or a sealant spray instead of resin, as resin can be a little harder to work with (especially if there is any kind of natural light) for those who are new to it. A spray sealant would dry faster like this spray one (affiliate link). I used a spray sealant on clay in this tutorial: https://domesticallyblissful.com/diy-clay-christmas-tree/
I hope that helps! 🙂
