Month 2 House Building update including foundation, framing, and hopeful move-in date.

The last time we built a house, it took 8 months to finish building once the framing began.
So based on those calculations, our house should be done in December.
But last time we were building a house that was well over 5,000 sq ft.
This time we are building a 2,500-square-foot house (and once we finish the bonus spaces someday it will probably be around ~3,000) so we are hoping the building process will go a little faster.
Last week Roger told me his *secret* goal was to get us in the house in October.
But since we are self-contracting the second half (we pulled the permits, and prepped the driveway/land, worked on installing utilities, etc, but have a licensed contractor helping with foundation/framing/etc. up to when the house is dried in), I think we will probably not be in the house until December.
Roger really wants to be in it for Christmas, so my guess is that our first night will be December 24. 😂
I guess we will have to wait and see!

April 2024
In April, a lot happened!
At the end of March, we had the footers poured and then the surveyor marked the corners for the block masons to lay out our foundation.
So in April, the block foundation was laid, the wood was delivered, and they began framing our house!
At the beginning of April, they laid cinder blocks for our whole foundation including pillars to support the wood beams for the floor of our house. We also did a little more work on our driveway by widening it and adding crush and run gravel to help smooth it out a little bit more.
After the masons finished all the blockwork, the foundation was inspected and passed. Then all the wood started getting delivered. The framers started around the middle/end of April and have been working hard. They have now finished the whole first-floor framing, including the support beams for the main floor, the subflooring, the first-floor walls, and most of the first-floor OSB sheathing. The framers also have framed the second-floor beams and most of the second-floor subflooring, and are about to begin the second-floor walls in the next few days.
Roger and I also have been working on picking out the fireplaces we will use and are getting ready to order those. We are also looking at siding options and debating between fiber cement siding vs brick siding. All our windows and doors came in this month, but are being held at the warehouses until we finish framing and then they can be delivered and installed.
Lastly, the foundation was pre-treated with anti-termite spray, and also the guy came to do the waterproofing of the foundation and install the French drain to help with water management/draining water away from our foundation.
We are super excited for May when they should finish framing, rough-in plumbing will begin, as well as roofing being installed, and likely windows and exterior doors will be installed as well!
