This DIY String Pumpkin Lantern is an easy fall craft and a fun way to light up the cooler evenings with a faux pumpkin and flameless candle.
I used a flameless candle inside my DIY String Pumpkin Lantern, but you can always opt for twinkle lights inside it instead.
If I make them again in the future with our son, I’ll probably swap the brown twine for orange yarn, so if any fibers are left behind, it will be orange and less obvious.
Currently, this fall string pumpkin is sitting on top of our son’s play kitchen.
After I decorated our kitchen for fall, I realized he might like to decorate his too, so we gathered several artificial pumpkins so he could have a fall-decorated kitchen too!

Materials:
Small Bowl
Stick
Instructions:
1. First, inflate the balloon (gently bounce it on the counter if need be to make it rounder) and then cover it with Mod Podge using a paintbrush.
2. Next, wrap the orange string around the balloon until it is 2/3-3/4 covered.
3. Brush more Mod Podge over the string on the balloon.
4. Place the balloon on a small bowl and then wrap twine around it, pull it tight slightly (enough to make an indent in the balloon, but not enough to pop it), and tie a knot.
5. Repeat 2 more times to make the impressions of a pumpkin. Cut off excess twine.
6. Let dry overnight on the small bowl. Note: You want the bowl to be small because what is inside the bowl will not dry. You can see how small a bowl I used in the pictures above.
7. Once dry, cut and remove the twine, then pop the balloon, and remove it by cutting out a hole in the base (where it is still wet from sitting in the bowl). You want this hole to be big enough to fit the flameless candle.
8. Next, cut a small hole at the top and hot glue the stem into it.
9. Then, hot glue the leaf to the stem and the string pumpkin.
10. Place your DIY String Pumpkin Lantern on top of a flameless candle and enjoy your new fall decor!
