5 Reasons to Visit the Kennedy Space Center with your family.

Last Mother’s Day, we decided to spend the day at the Kennedy Space Center.
My husband and I both love space. We love everything from the mystery of space (I took 2 semesters of astronomy in college) to the nerdy side of space (we both love star trek and sci-fi movies).
And since we had recently found out that we were having a baby boy it only made sense that we spend the day at the Kennedy Space Center.
I have a feeling we will be doing a lot more similar excursions with our son as he grows up.
And I can’t wait!
So today, I thought I would share with you a little bit about our trip, along with why I think you will love a visit to the Kennedy Space Center!

1. To Have Fun
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the Kennedy Space Center is awesome and a whole lot of fun!
I didn’t really know what to expect on our first visit and let me tell you, we had so much fun!
I honestly wasn’t sure if we would need a whole day, but we definitely did, and we didn’t even do everything!
From 3D IMAX movies to a rocket garden, to a space simulator, you can immerse yourself in all things space.
I wasn’t able to do the space simulator since I was pregnant at the time, but you better believe we will be back so we can do it together with our son one day!
2. For Inspiration
There is nothing quite like the inspiration of space.
Not only is space itself awe-inspiring, but the people who went to space and the people who worked hard behind the scenes to get them to space are incredibly inspirational!
The whole experience was inspiring, so much so that during this trip we decided to make our son’s nursery a space theme!

3. To Learn History
My BA degree is in history, so of course, the historical side of the Kennedy Space Center was totally up my alley.
Learning more about the people, the progress, the determination, and the many missions was fascinating.
And not just to me, the history nerd, but also to my husband!
4. To Make Memories
We made so many memories on this trip, not only fun and inspirational ones, but also as a growing family.
When one of the dads on the space simulator heard that I wasn’t riding because I was pregnant, he made sure to come over and tell me congratulations and happy mother’s day.
Roger and I had so much fun exploring the Kennedy Space Center, trying yummy foods (they have some good vegetarian options too!), and dreaming about taking our son back there in a few years to experience it all over again through his eyes.
5. For the Souvenirs
Of course, I had to include souvenirs on the list.
While I love shopping online, and they do have an online store, picking up a souvenir on your way out to remember the day by is always fun.
It was so fun buying each other something. I bought him a shirt that says “Failure is not an option” from the Apollo 13 mission. And he bought me the softest lightweight sweatshirt that says “I need my space.”
I can’t wait to go back, so little Roger can pick something out for himself too!
