December Foster Care Update

Sharing is caring!

Sharing how God has led and called us to open our hearts and home to foster care.

I’m not sure how to begin this post as it is a very hard one to share.

Little sis left us to return home after 7 weeks and big sis stayed with us for 2 more weeks before being placed in a new home (for reasons that are beyond the scope of this post).

Reunification in foster care is always the goal, and it was what we were hoping and praying for as these two girls probably never should have been taken from their home in the first place (I can’t share details of how we know this, but it’s a very sad reality that has haunted us for months).

The way the girls were separated was devastating and the long-term effects it will have on both of them is heartbreaking.

All we can do is pray that God will bless and guide their lives.

We are also praying that God will guide us too as we are uncertain of where He is leading us right now, both in the growth of our family and in our private life.

So much has happened in our lives over the last several months and not just the huge events that happened in foster care.

And while I can’t share a whole lot of details as things are still unfolding, 2021 is going to come with a lot of big changes for us.

We know God led us to foster care for us to learn some hard lessons.

Lessons of humility, grace, and forgiveness.

We learned so much about ourselves and how greatly we need Him daily.

And we are daily praying and seeking His will and guidance as to how we should proceed.

We honestly aren’t sure if we will re-open our home to foster care next year.

While we knew the system was broken we felt like we became an extra home that CPS (Children’s Protective Services) used to help the system become more broken.

And while we are grateful for DCS (Department of Child Services) who we knew were working hard for the good of the children and their families, the approach of CPS towards taking children away from (loving and caring) families was heartbreaking.

We entered foster care with the intent of helping children who needed a temporary safe and loving home and helping siblings stay together.

And when you watch a family continually be torn apart because someone in a government agency is trying to cause issues, well it breaks your spirit.

I wish I could share more, but it involves too many details of the girl’s case and it isn’t our place to share their story.

I will however say that the girl’s DCS (Department of Children’s Services – not the same as CPS) caseworker was amazing and worked his hardest for the girls and we are forever grateful to him for his work.

His sincere care and effort to help kids and families in their effort towards reunification was wonderful.

We are so thankful for this community that has supported us both with prayers and sending necessities to help as we became first-time parents.

We hope that you will continue to pray for the girls and us as we seek God’s guidance for what He has planned for our lives.

Thank you!
