When Roger and I were dating I wanted to make him an extra special Valentine’s Day dinner.
I took over my mom’s kitchen (they were out for the day/evening busy with something at my sister’s school) while trying to make an elaborate homemade meal.
It was my first time making homemade gnocchi and the kitchen was an absolute mess by the time I finished.
And while I wish I could say I still have that kind of energy ~15 years later, I’m cooking up something totally different this year.
I’m currently in my third trimester and our little one is due a couple of days before Valentine’s Day.
Our home won’t be filled with an extravagant homemade meal this year, but it sure will be filled with lots of love!
But whether you are new in the kitchen or need something quick to add to your extensive homemade Valentine’s menu, this Valentine’s Heart Caprese is the perfect solution!

I love how little work this takes but how pretty it turns out!

Valentine’s Heart Caprese
This Valentine’s Heart Caprese is a super easy appetizer or side dish for your next Galentine’s Party or romantic Valentine’s Day date at home.
Ingredients
Instructions
- First, use your cookie cutters to cut the fresh mozzarella into heart shapes. *(2)
- Then wash and slice your Roma tomatoes.
- Place the sliced Roma tomatoes on a plate or platter, then top each one with 1-2 basil leaves, and a heart-shaped fresh mozzarella.
- Finally, drizzle the top of your heart caprese with balsamic (right before serving).*(1)
- Enjoy!
Notes
- If you prefer thick balsamic (seen in video and pictures), simply pour the balsamic into a small pan, and bring it to a simmer at medium heat. Then reduce the heat to low, once it begins to bubble, and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes until thickened. I reduce between 1/4 and 1/3 cup, but it depends on how much balsamic reduction you desire.
- Save the extra mozzarella to be enjoyed as is, in sandwiches, or chopped up in a salad.
