*Warning: Husband bragging ahead!*
Roger has been making all my home dreams come true one project at a time!
We haven’t even been in the house a year and he has finished our closet, pantry, tornado shelter (fully closed in and bug free so I’ll actually get in it), a massive retaining wall (to extend our backyard), planted 8 large maple trees (lining our driveway) & 8 blueberry bushes, he is partway done with our laundry room (the lower half so I could do laundry), has a good start on my little library, and has recently finished these living room built-ins!
He plans to finish our library and laundry room by October, and then he *gets* a 3-month break before starting on my dream vegetable garden.
Notice I said vegetable garden because the following year I’m planning a flower garden.
I haven’t been able to help as much as I have in the past since I had a baby earlier this year, but hopefully I’ll be able to help more in the new year.
For our living room built-ins, he made them very similar to the ones we built in our last house.
So if you are interested in how he built them, you can find the original “DIY Living Room Built-Ins” by clicking HERE.
And be sure to follow along because tomorrow I’ll be sharing how I decorated them.

I used to have so much fun decorating our built-ins in our last house, and I was so excited when Roger finished building these in our living room.
Last year, one of Roger’s grandmothers was downsizing and gifting things to her children and grandchildren.
I wanted to be respectful of all her children and grandchildren and let them get “first dibs,” so I waited a few months after her invitation to everyone.
Then Roger, little Roger Dale, and I visited where she was storing her special home items.
I picked out several things I loved, and then convinced Roger to bring home more items that my in-laws picked up for me the next time they visited.
Little Roger Dale picked out a giraffe figurine, and I was super excited to get 4 beautiful wooden chairs, a brass bird, a candle snuffer, a soap dish (that I’m currently using as a candle holder), globe bookends, and 2 wood candle holders.
I mixed these (minus the wood chairs), with books, travel souvenirs, some items from Amazon, and things we brought from our last house.
And because I often get asked why the books are backwards, it’s simply for decoration. And even though they are backwards, they are still functional as books.
Oh, and to clarify, I am a reader (and am raising mini bookworms). So often, I get comments saying things like “she must not be a reader” when I show how I decorate my built-ins.
Roger is currently building me a little library for all my books, but since my son is a mini bookworm, it looks like I’ll be sharing the lower shelves with him. And our baby girl is already showing signs of loving books, too, so it looks like we will be going broke on books, which is a good way to go!
Anyways, these built-ins are done and decorated, and now we are off to our next project!
